I’m a nobody…

I’m just a fella who wants to help…

I’m a husband & a daddy…

I’m the Bull City Banker.

A Gothic-style church steeple visible through tree branches with blossoming flowers and budding leaves, set against a clear blue sky.

The Bull City Banker - In the beginning…

I remember my Momma taking me to the CCB (Central Carolina Bank) in downtown Hillsborough as a little boy. It was one of my first memories, and funny enough involved a bank. She’d go through the drive-thru, grab the Carolina blue box, and send in her paycheck to deposit…

I remember the box coming back and inside would be a sucker… That was my first impression of what a financial institution did - they gave away suckers to kids.

Years later I’d find myself handing out suckers through the drive-thru at the BB&T in downtown Durham…

It’s been a fun ride, 25+ years in the making…

The image shows the entrance to a stone building with steps leading up to a wooden double door. There is ornate trim around the door, a lantern-style light fixture hanging above, and a small window above the door. To the right of the door, there is a sign that reads 'Duke Social Sciences.'

 CHARACTER

Integrity • Honesty • Accountability

Character is the foundation of everything you do.

Do the right thing even when no one is watching.

The ignorant will mock you - remember, character comes with a price, but the peace of mind & favor with God you’ll earn is worth more than gold & the praise of people.

 PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY

Ownership • Organization • Execution

You are responsible for your life. Plan your days, stay organized, and follow through. Don’t like your job? Do something about it. Not enjoying the current circumstances? What can you do to change it?

In a world full of thermometers be a thermostat.

EMPATHETIC LEADERSHIP

Serving • Listening • Lifting Others

Genuine & empathetic leadership is understanding people and helping them grow in the way God created them.

Be honest. Live with integrity.

Kindness means you shoot straight, even if it costs you personally. Help people by giving honest feedback, being nice is selfish - instead, be kind.

FINANCIAL FREEDOM

Stability • Discipline • Independence

Money is a tool. Money provides security for ourselves & our family, and allows us the opportunity to help others. Money can become your master, so beware becoming a slave. Instead learn how to create it, use it, and multiply it for your own well being and for the benefit of others.

THE JOURNEY

Fulfillment • Gratitude • Presence

The purpose of the journey is to live well and appreciate the life you're building. It’s not the destination of the journey, nor is it just about the journey… It’s about who you become during the journey and being grateful for it.

Ultimately, the journey (life) is best summed up by the Westminster (shorter) Catechism: “Man’s chief end is to glorify God and to enjoy Him forever.”
